It’s one of our favorite days of the year – 4/20 – a day to celebrate cannabis and its culture. Luckily, attitudes toward cannabis are shifting to be more progressive and that definitely is giving us something to salute this year!
If you’re wondering how April 20 become a weed holiday in the first place, read on!
According to an article in CNN, “420” became a code for a 1970s group of high schoolers in the North Bay known as “the Waldos” to meet up and smoke. The time 4:20 p.m. was before their parents got home but after school let out so they could all toke together in peace. The code caught on over the decades and throughout California to mean more than just a smoke session. The California Senate bill that created the state's medical marijuana program even uses the numerals, CNN says. “420 friendly” is now known as an identifier for someone who enjoys weed, and the timecode is also used to mark the date.
For 4/20 this year, we’ll be at dispensaries throughout the state with giveaways and smoking hot deals.
